| Three
Trees
is my spontaneous reaction to a lively discussion, which stated that degenerate
adults are born with this defect. I wanted to observe how these three
beech trees changed with the unnatural and different environment I had
subjected each to for nine months. I chain sawed each of the three pieces
at regular intervals along the trunk to promote movement. They have now
been brought together within the same environment so I can observe and
record the changes that will take place in their future.
The Tree
is an inquisitive observation of the discarded bog oaks that farmers plough
up from the sub soil. I wanted to shift the emphasis and celebrate the
newly unearthed bog oak, encircling it with slate and stone to protect
it.
Grand Canyon
is an analysis of my twenty year relationship with my husband. I used
an aerial photograph of the Grand Canyon to take the form of the analysis.
I used shells wired together and placed them in varying depths of welded
frames to tell the story. The Grand Canyon consists of four pieces, the
largest being 2.7m tall. It is located on the side wall of my home where
the environment and the strategically planted ivy and creeper continually
make changes to the piece.
Birds
are made from recycled steel welded onto 4m poles. I was inspired when
several birds were scared out of a bush, squawking up into the sky at
such a rate it took my breath away. |
